Khorgos – Kazakhstan

Khorgos (霍尔果斯), near Yili, is the main road/rail port to Kazakhstan. It’s busy with freight; passenger crossing is possible with a Kazakhstan visa (many nationalities visa-free for short stays — check).

• From Yining: ~1.5h to the port.
• Onward: Almaty is a few hours by road/rail into Kazakhstan.
• Permit: the border-area pass from Yining for the approach.
