Finding the right place to stay in Xinjiang can make or break your trip. The region is massive, accommodation quality varies widely, and some of the best places to stay book out months in advance.

Most trips start or end in Ürümqi. It’s not the most charming city, but it’s a practical base for 1-2 nights.

Where to Stay in Ürümqi

City Center (Renmin Road / Hongshan area):

– Cons: Traffic, not much to see
– Best for: Business travelers, short stays

Near the Train Station:

Kanas Lake Area

Inside Kanas Village

Outside the Scenic Area (Jiadengyu / Burqin)

If you can’t find accommodation inside (or don’t want to pay the premium):

– Jiadengyu (贾登峪): 15 minutes from entrance. Basic hotels, ¥150-400/night.
– Burqin (布尔津): 2 hours from Kanas. More options, ¥200-600/night. Good for breaking up the journey.

Booking tip: For autumn visits (September 15 – October 5), book 6-8 weeks ahead. These dates sell out.
